Inter Milan have confirmed the signing of Curtis Jones in a £30m (€35m) deal from Liverpool, marking the English midfielder’s departure after a 16-year association with the Reds.
Liverpool will receive a fixed fee of £25.7m along with £4.28m in performance-based add-ons. Sky Sports News reported the inclusion of a 10% sell-on clause in the transfer agreement.
Former head coach Andoni Iraola expressed interest in retaining Jones at Anfield but highlighted 19-year-old academy graduate Trey Nyoni as a promising successor for the midfield role this season.
Liverpool’s transfer strategy this window has prioritized strengthening their wide positions, with two bids for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh – the most recent offer reaching £60m – being turned down.

Cody Gakpo has attracted interest from Tottenham, though Liverpool currently has no intention of selling the Dutch international.
Jones’ transfer concludes his journey at Liverpool, where he made his first-team debut during the 2018/19 campaign. Over his tenure, he featured 228 times across all competitions, netting 22 goals.
The England international becomes Inter’s third Premier League export this window, following John Stones and Djed Spence. During his time at Anfield, Jones secured two Premier League titles, two Carabao Cups, the Club World Cup, and the FA Cup – along with reaching the 2022 Champions League final.
How will Jones exit affect Liverpool’s midfield options?
Sky Sports’ Rich Morgan:
Jones’ departure from Liverpool raises questions about the composition of the new squad’s midfield structure under Iraola.
Under previous manager Arne Slot, Jones made 49 appearances, with 34 of those occurring in the club’s challenging Premier League title defense. He frequently partnered Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, and Ryan Gravenberch, while also occasionally filling in as a right-back.
The incoming Reds manager has announced plans to deploy Florian Wirtz in a central attacking midfield role within a 4-2-3-1 system, which will intensify competition among Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, and Gravenberch for two available midfield positions.
The Basque coach will also have the option to utilize Wataru Endo and Nyoni, who has impressed during the preseason. There is speculation that Liverpool might reinvest the £30m transfer fee in a replacement for Jones.
