Interpol Launches Global Manhunt for Ukrainian Suspect in Monaco Explosion Targeting Sanctioned Tycoon]
< Interpol has issued a worldwide alert seeking a 39-year-old Ukrainian woman suspected of planting a bomb in Monaco that injured three people, including a businessman of Ukrainian origin who is under Western sanctions.
The explosion occurred on Monday in an apartment building in Monaco when an unidentified individual left a package in the entrance hall. The device detonated moments later as three residents were entering the building.
Authorities have not publicly identified the victims, but sources indicate the attack targeted Vadym Yermolaiev, 58, a Ukrainian-born businessman who holds Cypriot citizenship, along with his partner and his 13-year-old son. The teenagers was admitted to Lenval children's hospital in Nice in critical condition, while the two adults suffered life-threatening injuries and were transferred to Nice University Hospital. By Wednesday, the man's condition had improved, though the woman's remained unstable.
Interpol's Red Notice identifies Anastasiia Berezovska as the suspected bomber. According to French media outlets Le Figaro and BFMTV, security footage shows the suspect—who was captured wearing a black fisherman's hat attempting to disguise her gender—visiting the building prior to the attack.
Monaco's public prosecutor Stephane Thibault confirmed that effective international cooperation enabled authorities to quickly identify the suspect. A judicial investigation for attempted murder and related charges has been opened and assigned to three investigating judges.
Yermolaiev has been subject to Ukrainian sanctions since December 2023 over allegations of conducting business in Crimea, territory annexed by Russia in 2014. Kyiv claims he operated an alcohol business there and paid taxes to Moscow after Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022. Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council has blocked his assets, restricted his trade transactions, and prohibited him from withdrawing capital.
