An investigation is underway regarding allegations that China has provided funding for pro-Palestine marches within the United Kingdom, according to an exclusive report from The Telegraph.
U.S. lawmakers investigating the potential covert financial support provided by China to the far-left activist group Code Pink are also scrutinizing the organization’s activities in Britain as part of a broader inquiry into foreign interference.
Code Pink has coordinated numerous protests across the UK protesting British involvement in the Gaza conflict, frequently issuing statements alleging that British leadership has been influenced by Zionist interests.
The Telegraph reported that the U.S. investigation is looking into £250,000 in alleged payments made to a UK-based company linked to Code Pink. These funds reportedly originated from companies associated with tech tycoon Neville Roy Singham, who has been accused of financing Chinese propaganda on a global scale.
“The committee is well aware that Singham’s funding is supporting pro-Hamas and pro-communist causes not only in the United States, but also overseas, including in the United Kingdom,” Jason Smith, chairman of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee, told The Telegraph.
“We are aware that China is funding pro-Hamas and leftist causes in the UK and the US. That is why we are investigating it and will continue to do so,” a congressional source told The Telegraph.
In the United States, Code Pink has received millions of dollars from Singham, who is currently the subject of several inquiries regarding his network and whether it disseminates pro-Beijing propaganda on behalf of the Chinese government.
A congressional committee has asserted that Code Pink—which was founded by Singham’s wife, Jodie Evans—appears to have been “funded and influenced by Mr. Singham and the communist Chinese government.”
Code Pink also maintains a campaign titled “China is not our enemy.”
While Code Pink did not respond to requests for comment, the organization has previously dismissed these allegations as entirely false. Medea Benjamin, a co-founder, told the Washington Times: “We get zero money from the Chinese Communist Party.”
