Washington and Tehran have agreed to halt attacks and resume diplomatic talks in the Qatari capital of Doha, according to reports by Axios. The agreement comes as Iran reaffirmed its insistence on maintaining control over the strategically vital Hormuz Strait, through which nearly 21 million barrels of oil per day transit daily.
The breakthrough in negotiations marks a significant de-escalation in tensions between the two sides, with both parties agreeing to cease hostilities amid ongoing indirect negotiations facilitated by Qatari intermediaries. The talks represent the first concrete progress in restoring diplomatic ties following months of escalating regional tensions.
Analysts point to the Hormuz corridor as the focal point of broader geopolitical maneuvering, with Iran’s leverage over the waterway continuing to provide Tehran significant strategic influence in any potential settlement.
