BERLIN: Iranian intelligence services are reportedly targeting US military installations in Germany, including the Ramstein and Spangdahlem air bases. This development comes amid concerns over potential covert attacks linked to the ongoing conflict with Iran, according to a report by WirtschaftsWoche.
Israel allegedly warned US and German partners three weeks ago about a potential threat, with the focus on bases supporting American military operations and logistics connected to the Iran conflict. The report cited several unnamed Western intelligence officials.
The Iranian and Israeli embassies in Berlin did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The German defense ministry declined to provide a statement on the matter.
“It is inappropriate to discuss intelligence matters, and we will not comment on specific threat reporting or force protection measures,” a US European Command spokesperson said. “US European Command remains vigilant and continuously assesses the security environment across the European theater.”
A source informed Reuters that Germany has been monitoring increased Iranian activity for weeks, without specifically addressing the WirtschaftsWoche article.
In a related action, the US announced on Monday that a threat linked to Iran had prompted the removal of American B-1 bombers from the British air base RAF Fairford.
