The Iranian football squad has arrived in Tijuana, Mexico, which will serve as its headquarters for the 2026 World Cup following a dispute over U.S. visas.
The team originally intended to stay in Tucson, Arizona, but the plan was abandoned after several staff members, including Iran Football Federation head Mehdi Taj, were denied visas.
While all of Iran’s group matches are scheduled in the United States, the players will need to travel to and from the U.S. on each match day.
This development occurs amid ongoing tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran, marking the first World Cup where a host nation faces a team from a country with which it is at war.
