DUBAI: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has called on Tehran to formulate comprehensive plans to overcome “unjust sanctions,” following a series of aggressive threats and economic measures from Washington. The statement came after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced what he described as the most stringent sanctions regime in history targeting the Islamic Republic.
The US administration is preparing to impose “the toughest sanctions in history,” with Bessent suggesting that robust economic pressure could obviate the need for new military operations against Iran. This announcement follows former President Donald Trump’s stark warning of “economic warfare” against any country providing “any type of lifeline to Iran.”
