DUBAI – Iran’s Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad has resigned, and Hamid Bovard, chief executive of the government-owned National Iranian Oil Company, has been appointed as acting minister. State media reported the development on Sunday without providing a reason.
Paknejad, who has served as oil minister since August 2024, departs as a seven-month standoff between Iran and the United States intensifies economic pressure on the OPEC member state.
An official at President Dr. Pezeshkian’s office confirmed that the president has accepted the resignation and appointed Bovard as the acting oil minister,” state media reported.
