[IRGC Confirms Four Oil Tankers Struck Mines in Hormoz Strait]
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that three additional oil tankers collided with mines it had laid within the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a statement issued by the IRGC, two vessels operating illegally in the sea were damaged as mines detonated at a designated illegal crossing site in the southern portion of the Strait. The incident resulted in fires and forced the affected tankers out of service.
The IRGC further reported that a major carrier, which had flouted operational protocols, suffered an explosion upon contacting a naval mine in the southern sector of the Strait, after which it ignited and was rendered unusable.
The vessel was transporting over two million barrels of crude oil and had disabled its radar and navigation apparatus following the encounter with the installed mines.
