Iraola Identifies Clear Transfer Priorities for Liverpool Ahead of New Season

CHICAGO — Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola announced that the club has clear transfer priorities as it aims to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season.

Liverpool have already secured the arrivals of defender Jérémy Jacquet and forward Víctor Muñoz. Nonetheless, the squad still needs additional reinforcements after the exits of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konaté.

“It is challenging to quantify the precise needs,” Iraola remarked. “When the transfer window opens, we remain open to new options that can enhance the squad.”

There are clear areas where reinforcements are required. For instance, the club must recruit a winger, while other positions will be assessed based on market availability, cost considerations, and the existing player pool.

We face several delicate positions complicated by injuries to trusted players, though the ideal solutions will depend on various factors.

Iraola also commented on the ongoing speculation surrounding midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, who is expected to return to preseason training later this summer after reaching the World Cup final with Argentina.

Mac Allister, who has two years left on his contract, has been linked with a move to Spain; however, the Liverpool manager has voiced a desire to retain the 27‑year‑old at Anfield.

“I believe Alexis was one of the club’s standout performers last season and excelled at the World Cup,” Iraola said. “It is natural for other clubs to express interest in our top talent, as this is common in the market.”

“However, my priority is to retain our key players while also focusing on acquiring new talent,” Iraola added.

Liverpool are currently on a preseason tour of the United States, where they will face Sunderland, Leeds United, and Wrexham in friendly fixtures.
