Iraqi President Nizar Amidi stated on Sunday that Iraq aims to establish the most robust strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia across all sectors, emphasizing that limiting weapons ownership to state control is the government’s highest priority.
In an interview withAl ArabiyaAmidi said Saudi Arabia plays a major role in the region, describing the Kingdom as a neighboring country with an active and influential economic presence.
He added that Iraq’s security situation remains fragile, noting that Baghdad rejects using its territory to launch attacks against neighboring countries.
\”The security of the Gulf is intertwined with Iraq’s security, and Iraq’s security is integral to the region’s security,\” he said.
Amidi added that, following its anti-corruption campaign, the Iraqi government will focus on addressing weapons held by armed factions and the security file concerning Turkey.
He emphasized that there would be no reversal of the decision to restrict weapons to state control, describing it as the most important issue facing the government.
Last month, three armed factions announced their willingness to surrender their weapons: Saraya al-Salam, Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, and the Imam Ali Brigades.
