IRS CEO Frank Bisignano announced on Friday that up to 25 million Trump Accounts could be funded by mid-October, during an appearance on CNBC’s “Power Lunch.”

His remarks come shortly after the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that more than 60 million American children under the age of 18 have been automatically enrolled in the new tax-deferred savings and investment accounts.

It remains unclear whether Bisignano’s funding projection refers to family and employer contributions, or grant money, including a one-time $1,000 pilot program from the Treasury Department or a $250 Dell grant earmarked for 25 million children.

Additional free funding may also be on the horizon. Michael Dell and his wife, Susan, committed $6.25 billion to provide financial support for children born between 2016 and 2024 who do not qualify for the federal seed money. According to the Dell Foundation, this commitment could fund investment accounts for approximately 25 million American children.

The announcement of these accounts comes as the midterm elections approach, with Democrats leading in recent national public polling.

Families must still claim their auto-enrolled accounts through the Trump Accounts app to receive the Treasury’s $1,000 seed money and any other eligible deposits.

Expanding access to these investment accounts was a key priority for the Trump administration, and Bisignano was tasked with leading the initiative.

Approximately 72 companies have pledged to match contributions for their employees’ children, Bisignano noted during his “Power Lunch” appearance, and philanthropists in several states have committed to additional gifts for qualifying families.

“We have many more donors that want to be part of this,” Bisignano stated on Friday.
