In Islamabad, authorities will digitally monitor Muharram processions and gatherings using drones, and have completed geo‑tagging of all imambargah, assembly venues and procession routes, as outlined in an interior ministry statement on security arrangements.
The statement follows a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to assess security preparations for Muharram in the capital.
The statement announced the launch of a dedicated mobile application, ‘Mehfooz Muharram’, enabling citizens to report suspicious activity, inadequate security measures, or share live locations and images.
Additionally, a central command center has been set up at Safe City, and a four‑tier security perimeter will be enforced to safeguard processions and gatherings.
Naqvi has ordered that a four‑tier security cordon remain in place to protect Muharram gatherings and processions, alongside a comprehensive traffic management plan.
He instructed relevant authorities to closely coordinate with religious scholars to maintain law and order, enforce a strict code of conduct, and adopt a zero‑tolerance stance toward provocative material.
He also directed that provisions for food and drinking water be made for deployed security personnel.
During the meeting, Islamabad’s chief commissioner and inspector general of police presented the interior minister with a detailed briefing on security arrangements.
They reported that security audits of all religious gatherings and processions have been completed, the Aman and Nigehban committees activated, and that the Islamabad administration is in contact with scholars and organizers of Muharram events.
The meeting was attended by all deputy inspector‑generals of police, senior superintendents, the deputy commissioner, and all assistant commissioners in Islamabad.
Earlier this week, Naqvi, together with State Minister Tallal Chaudhry, chaired a special session of the Paigham‑i‑Aman Committee to review Muharram arrangements and curb sectarian incitement.
The Committee discussed measures to promote inter‑sect harmony and religious tolerance during Muharram, and resolved to take action against individuals spreading incitement or sectarianism on social media.
