Crystal Palace forward Ismaila Sarr will need time to come to terms with the collapse of his proposed transfer to Liverpool, according to head coach Pierre Sage.
The Senegal international, the club’s top scorer last season, was heavily linked with a move to Anfield late in the transfer window but ultimately remained at Selhurst Park.
Sage admitted, “He certainly needs to digest this because playing for a club like Liverpool is a dream for many players.”
“He had a good opportunity, but it ultimately did not materialize. If he wishes to continue, he must deliver a strong season with us like he did last year. We are aware that he needs time.”
“As with any difficult situation, time is the remedy, and we need time for that.”
The 28-year-old has not yet featured for Palace this season, missing their Premier League defeats to Everton and Manchester City due to a groin injury. He will remain sidelined for the trip to Fulham on Saturday (15:00 BST).
Amid uncertainty surrounding Sarr’s future, Palace held discussions with Belgium forward Malick Fofana on deadline day, but the 21-year-old opted to leave Lyon for Sunderland in a deal worth £30m.
“We did our best,” Sage added regarding the negotiations. “At the end of the day, the player chose his criteria, and I wish him and them the best, as he is a good guy and a good player.”
Fulham, who face Palace on Saturday, are also searching for their first Premier League point following defeats at home to Chelsea and away to Sunderland.
