Israel has shared intelligence with the United States regarding a suspected Iranian plot to assassinate US President Donald Trump, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Thursday night.
This intelligence comes amid heightened tensions and recent exchanges between the US and Iran centering on the Strait of Hormuz.
While the Wall Street Journal noted that Israel’s embassy in Washington declined to comment and Iran’s Mission to the United Nations did not immediately respond, the White House directed inquiries toward remarks President Trump made Wednesday during the NATO summit in Ankara.
“They want to take out the US leader, me,” Trump told reporters in Turkey. “I’m on every list. I saw this morning, I’m on every single one of their lists. And so far, I guess I’ve been a little bit lucky, but that maybe doesn’t last very long.”
Simultaneously, demonstrators in Iran voiced hostile sentiments, with some shouting, “I swear by the blood of the Supreme Leader, Trump, we will kill you!” while women displayed placards calling for the president’s death.
On Thursday, roads leading to the shrine were filled with black-clad mourners, some of whom chanted slogans praising Supreme Leader Khamenei and invoking the revolutionary phrase “Death to America.”
In a separate communication, President Trump updated Prime Minister Netanyahu on current US operations in the Gulf and strikes targeting Iranian assets. During the call, Netanyahu urged Trump to reconsider the F-35 deal with Turkey.
Netanyahu further addressed the severe rhetoric used by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan regarding the State of Israel and emphasized the necessity of establishing security zones along Israel’s borders.
Further details of the conversation were not disclosed.
Despite the diplomatic exchanges and the volatile regional climate, a White House official confirmed to Walla on Thursday that there are currently no plans for a meeting between the two leaders.
