Israel and Hezbollah have reached a ceasefire agreement that will take effect at 4 p.m. local time (13:00 GMT) on Friday, according to a senior U.S. official who spoke with Anadolu Agency.
The official offered no additional details regarding the terms of the ceasefire.
The ceasefire was announced following at least 31 deaths and multiple injuries from Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon early Friday, and after four Israeli soldiers were killed in a Hezbollah attack in the same region.
On Wednesday evening, U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, a joint effort to end the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran and to halt Israeli strikes on Lebanon.
Official figures indicate that Israel’s military operation in Lebanon since March 2 has resulted in 3,912 fatalities, 11,873 injuries, and the displacement of over one million residents.
Israel continues to hold several areas in southern Lebanon, some for decades and others since the recent conflict began. In the ongoing campaign, Israeli forces have advanced more than 10 km (about 6 miles) into Lebanese territory.
