JERUSALEM: Israel on Friday rebuked the Nobel Committee’s decision to award the Peace Prize to jurist Navi Pillay, asserting that the honor amplifies “anti‑Israel hatred.” In a statement posted on X, the Israeli Foreign Ministry claimed that Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels would be “applauding from hell” at the prize’s recognition of what Israel describes as a false narrative.
Pillay chaired the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, an entity that operates independently of the UN. In its 2023 report, the commission concluded that Israel was committing “genocide” in Gaza.
- The commission previously accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza.
- Israeli officials claim the award legitimizes anti‑Israel sentiment.
