The death toll from Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon rose to at least 28 on Saturday, even as a ceasefire and a US‑Iran understanding were reported by Lebanon’s state‑run National News Agency, according to Anadolu.
The Israeli military launched air strikes across southern Lebanese cities — including Nabatieh, Tyre, and Sidon — beginning in the early hours of the day.
An Israeli strike on the town of Qanarit in Sidon resulted in seven fatalities and 13 injuries, preliminary reports indicate.
Lebanon’s Civil Defense Directorate reported that 16 people were killed in Israeli attacks in Nabatieh.
Earlier, an Israeli air strike on the town of Barish in Tyre killed four members of a single family, among them two children, the NNA reported.
One additional person was killed in the eastern Lebanese town of Suhmur.
The Civil Defense Directorate stated that its teams evacuated 47 people to safety and transported 16 bodies and 12 injured individuals to hospitals.
Since March 2, Israel’s military campaign in Lebanon has killed more than 3,980 people, injured over 12,000, and displaced more than one million residents, according to Lebanese authorities.
The latest attacks followed a Friday report by Israel’s Channel 12, citing an unnamed official, that a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah had taken effect at 4 p.m. local time (1300 GMT).
A senior US official also confirmed the ceasefire in a statement to Anadolu, while Hezbollah has not yet commented.
