Israelis turned out on Tuesday in their highest numbers in decades, with exit polls showing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc and the opposition running neck and neck.
Projections from the country’s three major television networks allocated roughly 51 seats to each camp in the 120-member Knesset—well short of the 61-seat majority required to form a government. Early counts had initially signaled an advantage for the opposition alliance led by former military chief Gadi Eisenkot.
Arab-led lists posted strong gains, with exit polls forecasting a combined haul of 17 or 18 seats.
