JERUSALEM: The Israeli military confirmed on Monday that a soldier was killed in southern Lebanon, bringing the total number of its troops lost in the ongoing conflict with Iran-backed Hezbollah to 23.
The soldier has been identified as 19-year-old Sergeant Nehoray Leizer, serving in the 601st Combat Engineering Battalion. According to a military statement, he “fell in combat in southern Lebanon.”
During the engagement in which Leizer was killed, another soldier sustained serious injuries, the Israeli military reported separately via Telegram.
Since hostilities erupted on March 2, a total of 24 Israelis have been killed in the conflict—23 soldiers and one civilian contractor.
