Israeli strikes killed at least two Palestinians and wounded several others on Monday in two separate attacks across the Gaza Strip, according to health officials in the enclave.
In Gaza City, a strike hit the rooftop of a residential building, killing a woman and wounding her husband and others, medics reported. A second strike in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza killed another woman and injured several more.
The Israeli military acknowledged striking a militant in Nuseirat but provided no further details. It did not immediately comment on the reported strike in Gaza City.
Palestinian authorities estimate that more than 73,000 people have been killed in Israel’s offensive in Gaza, launched after Hamas-led fighters killed approximately 1,200 people in southern Israel in October 2023.
A U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreed upon last year calls for the eventual reconstruction of the territory, yet little progress has materialized. Negotiators have failed to agree on terms for Hamas to disarm and for Israel to withdraw its troops, while Israeli airstrikes have continued.
Since the ceasefire took effect, at least 1,400 Palestinians—mostly civilians—have been killed in Gaza, according to the territory’s health officials, while the Israeli military says four Israeli soldiers have died. Israel and Hamas continue to trade blame for violations of the ceasefire agreement.
