Italy’s Luxury Hospitality Sector Surges with Major Hotel and Spa Unveilings]
Italy remains a premier destination for travelers seeking cultural richness, culinary excellence, and timeless charm. The country’s blend of historic preservation and modern sophistication continues to attract both leisure and business travelers.
Significant developments are reshaping Italy’s luxury hospitality landscape. Three major brands are expanding their presence with new properties and experiences that promise to elevate the nation’s already renowned hospitality offerings.
Hyatt Announces Three New Italian Properties
In June, Hyatt Hotels revealed plans to expand its Italian presence with three new hotels, adding 428 rooms and suites to its existing six-property portfolio in the country. “Italy is an important growth market for Hyatt because it combines strong travel demand with a large base of independent hotels,” said Nuno Galvao Pinto, Vice President Development, EAME at Hyatt.
The first property, Hyatt Regency Rome Central, is scheduled to open by the end of September near Roma Termini train station. As the brand’s debut in Italy, it will cater to business travelers with 238 rooms and suites, a rooftop pool, and Niroma, an Asian-inspired restaurant. The second Rome property, Thompson Rome, will open later in the year with 69 rooms and three dining concepts in a repurposed heritage building near the Colosseum and Roman Forum. The third property, Park Hyatt Taormina, slated for 2028 in Sicily, will feature 121 luxurious suites, each with a private terrace overlooking the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna.
IHG Plans Four New Italian Hotels
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts (IHG) announced four new hotels in Italy, targeting both urban centers and leisure destinations. “Italy is one of Europe’s most dynamic hospitality markets, and we see significant opportunity to continue scaling across both key cities and high-quality leisure destinations,” said Willemijn Geels, Vice President, Development, Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts.
The expansion includes a dual-branded Crowne Plaza and Staybridge Suites in Milan’s NoLo district (North of Loreto), opening January 2027, featuring 67 Crowne Plaza rooms and 96 Staybridge Suites apartments. In mid-2027, Garner Hotel Turin Porta Nuova will open with 57 keys in a historic building opposite Torino Porta Nuova railway station. Additionally, IHG’s Hotel Indigo Apulia Alberobello is scheduled for 2028, offering 129 keys along with a spa, gym, and convention center in the Apulia region near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Alberobello.
Dior Spa Debuts at Grand Hotel Timeo in Taormina
French luxury brand Dior has partnered with Grand Hotel Timeo, a Belmond property in Sicily, to create its first permanent spa in Italy. The collaboration transforms the historic hotel into a sanctuary of timeless serenity, drawing inspiration from Monsieur Christian Dior’s decades-long muse of the Mediterranean.
The Dior Spa offers guests an array of haute-couture-inspired treatments, including the Kobi-Dior facial—a one-hour sculpting experience featuring dry brushing, massage, firming masks, and cryo acupressure. Treatments begin at €290. Beauty enthusiasts can also indulge in bespoke sessions with Dior makeup artists, learning to achieve everything from natural looks to graphic eye makeup personalized to their style.
