Jaffna Kings Secure Towhid Hridoy as Replacement for Taskin Ahmed in Lanka Premier League

The Lanka Premier League Players’ Management Committee has cleared the addition of Bangladesh captain Towhid Hridoy to the Jaffna Kings roster for the current season.

He steps in for fellow Bangladeshi international Taskin Ahmed, who has been withdrawn from the tournament owing to his unavailability to join the team.

“We are delighted to welcome Towhid Hridoy to the Lanka Premier League. He has emerged as one of Bangladesh’s most accomplished cricketers and brings both quality and leadership to the Jaffna Kings. While we wish Taskin Ahmed the very best, we are confident Hridoy’s arrival will further enhance the competition and give fans another exciting player to follow this season,” Anil Mohan Sankhdhar, Founder and CEO of IPG Group, the official rights holder of the Lanka Premier League, said in a press release.

The right‑handed batter arrives with strong T20 numbers, having amassed 4,057 runs in 168 matches at an average of 30.73, which includes two centuries and twenty‑three fifties.

One of Bangladesh’s most reliable white‑ball batters, Hridoy comes into the side in fine form following a series of impactful international performances. In 2026 he has played several match‑changing innings, notably an unbeaten 51 off 27 balls versus New Zealand and a composed 61 against Australia. Since being named T20I captain, he has guided Bangladesh with assurance.

He recently captained the Bangla Tigers to a morale‑lifting 2‑1 T20I series victory over Zimbabwe, a win that gained extra significance after Bangladesh had lost the preceding ODI series 2‑1 to the same opponent. Across the three T20Is, Hridoy scored 14, 3 and 24 runs, yet his leadership on the field remained outstanding.

After opening their campaign with one win and one loss in Colombo, the Jaffna Kings prepare to face Colombo KAPS in Dambulla, with Towhid Hridoy expected to strengthen the lineup as they seek to gather momentum.
