The Jacksonville Jaguars have reinforced their quarterback room, acquiring Quinn Ewers from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a sixth‑round draft pick. The move adds an NFL starter with playoff experience to the roster and gives the franchise a versatile backup behind Trevor Lawrence.
Ewers saw NFL action in 2025 after Miami decided to bench starter Tua Tagovailoa once the Dolphins were out of playoff contention. He completed 66.3 % of his passes for 622 yards and three touchdowns across three starts. Miami selected Ewers in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, following a breakout season with the University of Texas, where he led the SEC with 31 passing touchdowns and propelled the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff semifinals. He posted a 283‑yard, two‑touchdown performance in Texas’s CFP loss to Ohio State in 2024, and also contributed to the team’s run to the semifinals in 2023.

Ewers appeared in Miami’s preseason contest but missed training camp with a groin injury. Jacksonville hopes to capitalize on his NFL experience, using him as a developmental backup to Lawrence and veteran Nick Mullens, while avoiding the limited role Miami afforded him.
The acquisition strengthens a quarterback group that finished a 13‑4 regular season under head coach Liam Coen. Miami’s QB room, meanwhile, features Malik Willis, Cam Miller and rookie Mark Gronowski.
Jacksonville opens its 2025 campaign at home versus the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Sept. 13, while the Dolphins will face the Las Vegas Raiders.
