JAKO PRIME CALLS FOR NEGOTIATION AMIDST STRIKE CONCERNS
Kashmir Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore emphasized that the government remains committed to resolving the contentious issue surrounding the 12 legislative assembly seats reserved for refugees from Indian-occupied Kashmir. He clarified that while efforts are being made to prevent the Joint Awami Action Committee from taking public demonstrations, the resolution of this dispute is expected through dialogue and political consensus.
Rathore outlined that almost all demands outlined in the previous agreement with the action committee have been addressed, with the single unresolved point being the abolition of refugee status. He stressed the need for broad consensus among all relevant stakeholders before concrete decisions are made.
Recent discussions with the JAAC indicate productive dialogue, but Rathore stressed that any major change must not be driven by political parties alone, but by a unified approach to regional stability.
He highlighted that public concerns must be acknowledged, and that the government’s responsibility is to listen, understand, and act appropriately. Adjustments will be required to protect the interests of the state and its residents.
