Japan’s top airlines compete on benefits as other differences narrow

TOKYO — In a strategic move to capture a larger share of high-spending travelers, Japan Airlines is lowering the thresholds required to attain elite membership status and expanding associated benefits, intensifying its rivalry with All Nippon Airways, the nation’s other major carrier.
