Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has stated that a recent adjustment in Jamal Musiala’s treatment for a neurological condition was responsible for the midfielder’s collapses in two consecutive friendly matches, adding that there is no cause for alarm.

The 23-year-old German international collapsed six minutes after entering as a substitute in Bayern’s 4-2 friendly victory over Heidenheim on Tuesday. Players from both sides gathered around him as he received medical attention on the pitch before being helped off.

This incident followed a previous collapse during a friendly match against Leipzig the prior weekend, where Musiala reportedly walked off the field independently but appeared disoriented.

Following the latest incident, Musiala addressed his fans on Instagram, explaining that he had been diagnosed with temporary absence seizures caused by a neurological issue, noting that the condition is easily treatable.

As Bayern Munich prepared for the German Supercup match against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, Coach Vincent Kompany took steps to reassure the public regarding Musiala’s health.

“I spoke with Jamal, and he told me, ‘No problem, you can say it,’” Kompany said during a Friday news conference. “In his treatment, he adjusted some elements, which led to these side effects. It is entirely normal to try different approaches during treatment.”

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl emphasized the club’s full support for the player, noting that Musiala himself wanted his condition to be made public.

Musiala will not be included in the squad for Saturday’s match, giving him the necessary time to adjust to his treatment now that his condition is public knowledge.

“We’ve known about it for the entire last season,” Eberl stated. “The players also knew about it. For us, it’s become part of everyday life. He changed something in his medication, which is why these situations became clear. We will give him all our support, have already done so, and will continue to do so. We’re doing this together.”

Kompany noted that Musiala, who has been working to regain his top form following a serious injury in July 2025 that sidelined him for six months, has made significant progress and is ready to perform.

“I am completely calm,” Kompany said. “I now expect the counterattack from Jamal. I have the feeling that he now has all the means to deliver these answers. For me, as a coach, I know he has taken a huge step forward.”
