The decision has sparked outrage among Lancashire members and drew sharp criticism from Anderson’s former England teammate Stuart Broad. Broad described the club’s handling of the situation as “pretty disrespectful,” noting a significant lack of leadership in failing to provide the veteran bowler with a proper farewell.
Anderson’s journey with the Lancashire Cricket Board began in 2000, when he made his List A debut at just 17 years old against Suffolk.
Throughout his illustrious career, Anderson has secured a record-breaking 911 international wickets—an England and global pace-bowling milestone. His domestic contributions to Lancashire include 443 first-class wickets, 83 in List A cricket, and 50 in T20 formats.
As the 44-year-old prepares to turn 45 next summer, several other counties are reportedly interested in securing his services.
While jokingly noting that he “wouldn’t have thought” he could represent Lancashire’s historic rivals, Yorkshire, Anderson remains undecided about his next steps. “I am still trying to process everything and weigh up the best way forward for me,” he remarked.
“It has been 10 days since it happened.
“I am starting to get excited about the future, whether that involves a new direction or continuing to play cricket. It is an exciting prospect.
“There are exciting challenges ahead. I have to approach it with that mindset rather than dwelling on how or why things concluded at Lancashire.”
He continued: “I am saddened by how things ended with the club I supported as a child, but upon reflection, I am quite excited about what lies ahead.
“I will always be a Lancashire supporter.
“I was born there and grew up watching them; some of my most cherished memories involve watching matches with my father. To have played for and captained the club is a dream realized for most.
“I feel a profound connection to the club and will always support them.”
