James Harden Facing Misdemanor Gun Charge After Arrest in Houston
Cleveland Cavaliers guard James Harden was released from a Houston jail after being arrested early Saturday for a misdemeanor gun violation.
Harden, who was driving through downtown Houston with four other passengers, was stopped by police just before 4am, according to court records. Authorities cited a handgun spotted in the cup holder of his Mercedes during a traffic stop.
Following the arrest, Harden confirmed ownership of the firearm and was booked at Harris County Jail. He was released after posting a $100 bond and will next appear in court on June 22.
The Cavaliers organization has not publicly addressed the incident.
Harden, a six-time NBA All-Star and recipient of the 2017-18 league MVP award, joined Cleveland in February via a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers. The 36-year-old player is a free agent candidate following this season but is anticipated to remain with the Cavaliers after guiding them to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance.
During the regular season, Harden contributed 20.5 points, 7.7 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game in 26 matches with Cleveland. Across 70 games, he averaged 23.6 points, 8.0 assists, and 4.8 rebounds.
Harden’s professional career has spanned multiple NBA franchises—including the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Clippers, and Cavaliers—since being selected third overall in the 2009 NBA Draft. Despite his historic individual accolades, he has yet to claim an NBA championship and remains a strong contender for Hall of Fame induction.
