Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has praised Cody Gakpo’s form so far this season, suggesting that the Holland forward has presented manager Andoni Iraola with a tactical dilemma.

Gakpo’s Anfield future was in jeopardy during the summer, as Manchester City and Tottenham were reportedly interested in signing him.

Cody Gakpo continues superb Liverpool form

Fans are relieved Gakpo remained, as he has started the season in excellent form and appears to have benefited from Iraola’s management.

The 27‑year‑old netted again, striking a well‑taken goal that helped Liverpool secure a 3‑1 Carabao Cup third‑round win over Tottenham.

Both Gakpo and the recently signed Bradley Barcola are capable of playing together, though each is primarily a left‑winger by inclination.

Gakpo is also comfortable playing on the right flank or as a striker, and his goal against Tottenham showcased his ability to cut in onto his right foot from a left‑sided forward position, making him both effective and dangerous.

It remains to be seen how his role will evolve throughout the campaign, and whether Barcola might occupy a slightly different position in Iraola’s starting XI.

Overall, Gakpo’s return to top form after a difficult season represents a positive challenge for Liverpool.
