Actress and comedian Janelle James has been selected to host the 32nd annual Critics Choice Awards, scheduled for January 3.
James is widely recognized for her portrayal of Ava Coleman on the hit series “Abbott Elementary,” a role that has earned her five consecutive Emmy nominations. Named one of Variety‘s 10 Comics to Watch in 2020, she is set to debut her first hour-long stand-up special on Netflix on November 10. Her development slate includes the Hulu comedy “Rock City,” and her previous credits encompass writing and performing on Showtime’s “Black Monday” and Apple TV+’s “Central Park,” as well as a starring role in “One of Them Days.”
“For over three decades, the Critics Choice Awards have been the place where the conversation about the year’s best work really takes off, and who better to host a show about the best of TV and film than one of the very best in the business?” said Joey Berlin, CEO of the Critics Choice Association. “We are so honored to have the incredible Janelle James join us to host this year’s Critics Choice Awards.”
The ceremony will air live on E! and USA Network at 4 p.m. PT, honoring the year’s top achievements in film and television. Nominations will be unveiled on December 4 at 9 a.m. PT across E! and USA Network linear channels, the Critics Choice website, E! Online, and the social platforms of both CCA and E!.
The 32nd annual Critics Choice Awards are executive produced by Bob Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment, with Dan Black of Greenberg Traurig serving as counsel. Comedian Chelsea Handler hosted the previous ceremony, which celebrated winners including Timothée Chalamet, Jacob Elordi, and Jessie Buckley.
