Sweden is aiming to secure its 10th advancement to a World Cup knockout stage. The nation’s most successful tournament runs include finishing as runners-up in the 1958 World Cup, which they hosted, as well as securing third place in 1950 and fourth in 1938.

While those historic achievements occurred decades ago, Sweden has maintained a strong presence in the modern era. Their most notable recent performance was a third-place finish during the 1994 tournament in the United States, followed by a quarter-final appearance in Russia in 2018, where they were eliminated by England.

Notably, Sweden has avoided a group-stage exit at a World Cup finals since the 1990 tournament in Italy. In every subsequent World Cup cycle, the Swedes have either successfully reached the knockout rounds or failed to qualify for the tournament entirely, as seen in 1998, 2010, 2014, and 2022.
