A Japanese logistics firm that serves Amazon Japan intends to settle payments with its business partners—including independent truck drivers—using the regulated yen‑pegged stablecoin JPYC, according to a Nikkei Asia report.
Tokyo‑listed AZ‑COM Maruwa Holdings (9090), which reported ¥230.5 billion ($1.4 billion) in revenue for the fiscal year ending March, plans to use JPYC for fees and other payments to its network of roughly 2,300 partners, such as subcontractors and truck drivers. The firm has partnered with Amazon Japan since 2017, delivering goods for its online shopping platform.
This development represents the first large‑scale corporate deployment of a stablecoin in everyday operations in Japan, indicating that tokenized asset adoption is progressing despite a prolonged bear market that has kept broader cryptocurrency valuations low.
JPYC is Japan’s inaugural fully regulated yen‑pegged stablecoin, issued by Tokyo‑based fintech firm JPYC Inc. Launched in October under the Payment Services Act, it maintains a strict 1:1 peg to the yen and is fully backed by bank deposits and Japanese government bonds. As of the previous week, its on‑chain circulation exceeded ¥2 billion.
