Koichi Kuroda, Governor of Japan’s Bank of Japan (BOJ), highlighted a diversified monetary policy approach during the institution’s biannual monetary policy report on Thursday. “Monetary policy decisions will depend on evolving economic and financial conditions,” Kuroda stated, maintaining the currency-hedging BOJ’s framework to stabilize economic growth while addressing rising inflationary pressures.
Governor Kuroda emphasized the BOJ’s readiness to act decisively based on data, prioritizing price stability and financial system health.”
MUFG analysts noted an escalation in yen depreciation momentum, as markets increasingly anticipate a potential policy shift from the BOJ’s ultra-loose negative interest rate stance. “Investors are pricing in a 60% probability of a July rate hike, triggering sustained yen weakness,” said MUFG’s Tokyo FX team in today’s market note.
