Jaxon Smith‑Njigba was named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
The league initially presented the Seattle Seahawks receiver with an award that misspelled “Offensive” as “Oefensive.” Smith‑Njigba said on Tuesday that the NFL has corrected the typo and sent him a new trophy.
“We checked it,” Smith‑Njigba said in a video from the team. “Everyone cleared it. I had the whole team read it, make sure it was right, and it’s good, solid.”
What couldn’t be fixed was comedian Druski’s mispronunciation of Smith‑Njigba’s name during the NFL Honors.
Smith‑Njigba initially described the typo and the mispronunciation as “disrespectful,” but said on Tuesday he is no longer upset.
“The Super Bowl brings a lot of attention, and I tried my best to stay focused on the game,” he explained. “Now I have no negative feelings toward the NFL, Roger Goodell, or Druski. I’ll just take my trophy, enjoy the accolades, and relax at home.”
