Jay-Z, the founder of Roc Nation—the entity responsible for booking the Super Bowl halftime show—has selected himself as the headliner for the 2027 edition. The rapper and mogul will perform at Super Bowl LXI on February 14, Valentine’s Day, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The game will be televised by ESPN for the first time, with ABC also simulcasting the event for the first time since 2006. A teaser clip for the upcoming halftime performance is available below.
Since 2019, Jay-Z has served as the NFL’s live music entertainment strategist and holds final approval over the halftime headliner. In a 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, he addressed the prospect of performing himself, stating, “I thought it would be selfish to pick myself too early. Maybe one year. Maybe.”
In a press release announcing the booking, Jay-Z reflected on the milestone: “From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl halftime stage, this has been a journey. Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world’s biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true.”
The announcement follows last year’s Bad Bunny performance, which sparked controversy among far-right figures—including former President Trump—while garnering widespread acclaim from the music industry and numerous political leaders.
