Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has spent the offseason familiarizing himself with the team’s new offensive scheme, and this work will continue through training camp this summer.
With David Blough now serving as the offensive coordinator after Kliff Kingsbury’s departure in January, Daniels anticipates more time under center than in either of his first two seasons. Daniels emphasized that the team has been concentrating on the fundamentals and that further development will be necessary before the regular season begins.
“I know we’ve got a lot more to go, but [we] have just built the foundation,” Daniels said. “You just keep building off of it.”
When asked about the key elements of that foundation, Daniels highlighted the importance of understanding the rationale behind each play, the objectives for execution, and the terminology that will be used this year.
After a rookie season that saw him reach the NFC Championship Game and earn Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, Daniels played only four full games in 2025 due to a series of injuries. He said he’s “done talking” about last season’s setbacks and that a swift start for Blough’s offense this fall will help ensure those discussions remain in the past.
