Jemima Goldsmith weds financier Cameron O’Reilly as former husband Imran Khan remains jailed in Pakistan

Jemima Goldsmith, the former wife of Pakistan cricket legend and ex‑prime minister Imran Khan, has married for a second time. The 52‑year‑old award‑winning film producer exchanged vows over the weekend with Cameron O’Reilly, a 62‑year‑old Irish‑Australian multi‑millionaire financier, while her former husband remains seriously ill in prison in Pakistan.

Her brother Ben Goldsmith confirmed the union, and his wife, Jemima Jones, posted online: “What a happy day!” The engagement had been reported in May when The Mail on Sunday revealed the pair were engaged after a year‑long romance. A source close to the couple said: “They first met through work and were friends for a while before that. They have been together as a couple for just over a year. He is very private and Jemima is determined to protect that.”

Cameron O’Reilly is the son of the late Sir Anthony O’Reilly, a media magnate and international rugby star. After graduating from Oxford, Cameron spent a decade working in his father’s media empire, Independent News and Media, and later the Australian group APN News and Media before stepping down as chief executive in 2000. In 2003 he launched private equity fund Bayard Capital, acquiring the Swiss metering company Landis+Gyr. He served as chief executive before selling the business to Toshiba for $2.3 billion in 2011. The couple are understood to have met while Cameron was working as an executive producer on several documentaries and films.

Jemima, a close friend of the late Princess Diana, has two sons, Kasim and Sulaiman, from her nine‑year marriage to Imran Khan, which ended in 2004 and was finalised in 2005. Cameron has four children of his own. Many of Jemima’s family members, including her brother Robin Birley (owner of the London club 5 Hertford Street), have met Cameron and get on well with him. The wedding follows the death of Jemima’s mother, Lady Annabel Goldsmith, a socialite after whom Annabel’s nightclub in Mayfair is named. Her father, billionaire tycoon Sir James Goldsmith, died in 1997.

Current situation of Imran Khan in prison

Imran Khan, the former Pakistan cricket captain who later became prime minister, was jailed in 2023 on corruption charges that he vehemently denies. He remained incarcerated after receiving additional sentences in December of last year in cases he describes as politically motivated.

Lawyers reported last month that Khan’s health has deteriorated markedly in jail conditions they described as “barbaric,” prompting a Supreme Court intervention that ordered his transfer to a private hospital. He was briefly taken to a government hospital instead, where he was deemed fit to return to his cell, despite reportedly losing 85 percent of vision in his right eye due to a blood clot.

Jemima and her two sons have been campaigning for Khan’s release throughout his incarceration.

Steps Imran Khan’s sons are taking to seek support

Sulaiman and Kasim, the two sons of Imran Khan and Jemima Goldsmith, have accused the British government of providing insufficient support for their father’s case. The brothers expressed hope of speaking with Prime Minister Andy Burnham about the matter.

Jemima herself has continued to campaign publicly for Khan’s release even as she moves forward with her personal life. Following her divorce from Khan, she had high‑profile relationships with actor Hugh Grant, comedian Russell Brand and The Crown scriptwriter Peter Morgan before her relationship with Cameron O’Reilly became public.
