Jersey will need to navigate an extra qualification phase to secure a spot in the 2028 T20 World Cup under revised ICC tournament structures.

The International Cricket Council has announced plans to introduce a Global Qualifier tournament that will sit alongside regional qualifying competitions.

Following their victory in the Sub Regional Europe Qualifier A in May, Jersey advanced to the final stage of European qualifying, alongside Italy, Scotland, the Netherlands, Denmark, and one additional team.

However, the new format means teams that participated in the previous T20 World Cup but did not secure automatic qualification for 2028 will now compete in the Global Qualifier.

Jersey narrowly missed qualification for the 2026 World Cup despite defeating Scotland, finishing third behind Italy and the Netherlands on net run rate.

Under the revised system, Jersey will face Scotland, Denmark, and one other team in the preliminary round, with the top two teams advancing to the Global Qualifier.

In the Global Qualifier, qualification will be determined geographically, with the top team from each of Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, and East Asia-Pacific advancing, plus three additional highest-placed teams regardless of region.

The new qualification format has received approval from the ICC Board and is pending final review by the Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee in November.
