Stuart Skinner has agreed to a two-year contract with the Winnipeg Jets that carries a $7.5 million salary cap hit, the team announced Wednesday.

The 27-year-old goaltender produced a 23-17-9 record with a 2.92 goals-against average and .888 save percentage across 50 appearances with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers last season. Following his December 12 trade to Pittsburgh, he posted a 12-9-5 mark with a 2.99 GAA and .885 save percentage in 27 games. Skinner allowed three goals in each of his three playoff outings for Pittsburgh.

“I know some of the guys on the team already living out in Calgary now, so it’ll be easy for me to get on the ice and get some good summer training with those guys and really develop a great relationship with those guys,” Skinner said. “All in all, it’s a great place for me to go, and I’m really excited to be part of this organization.”

“I think it’s just the place that I really wanted to go. Talking about the teammates that are there — the type of culture, how it’s managed, ownership, everything like that — was really the exciting part for me.”

Skinner backed the Edmonton Oilers to the Stanley Cup Final in both 2024 and 2025, falling to the Florida Panthers in both series.

Drafted by Edmonton in the third round (78th overall) in 2017, Skinner has compiled a 121-71-23 record with a 2.77 GAA and .902 save percentage in 224 regular-season games (218 starts) split between Edmonton and Pittsburgh. In 53 playoff appearances, he holds a 26-25 record with a 2.89 GAA and .892 save percentage.

“I think it takes a lot of strength to be able to play well, no matter what the noise is, no matter what’s going on,” Skinner said. “I feel like I’ve done a really good job on being able to take away from distractions and being focused on my job. I think resiliency is one of my best assets, and I take a lot of pride in that. Being able to learn from that in a tough market, in the situations that I faced, I think only makes you stronger, only makes you better, and I think that’s going to help me for the rest of my NHL career.”

The Jets also announced Wednesday they signed defenseman Mario Ferraro to a three-year, $12 million contract ($4 million AAV). The 37-year-old recorded 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) in 82 games with the San Jose Sharks last season.
