Hampshire batsman Joe Weatherley has signed a new contract with the county, extending his time with the club until the end of the 2028 season.
The 29-year-old was the leading run-scorer in last season’s T20 Blast, with 591 runs at an average just under 50.
On Finals Day at Edgbaston, Weatherley scored an unbeaten 88 in the semi-final against Notts Outlaws before following it up with 75 in the final as the Hawks lost to the Northamptonshire Steelbacks.
Despite the loss, it was a record-breaking day for the batter, as he became the first player to score two fifties on Finals Day.
Weatherley is a product of Hampshire’s academy and has played 211 matches for the club across all formats since his senior debut in 2016.
He is the club’s third-leading run-scorer in T20 cricket with 2,741 runs, behind only James Vince and Michael Carberry.
“I’m really pleased to extend my contract with Hampshire,” Weatherley said.
“This club has been my home for twenty years and over ten years professionally, and I love playing my cricket and being part of the dressing room here.
“We’ve got a great group of players, and I’m motivated to contribute across formats and continue our success, particularly in white ball cricket, where we’ve been in knockouts and finals regularly, and bring some trophies home.”
In last summer’s Hundred, Weatherley was signed as a late addition to the Birmingham Phoenix squad to replace the injured Jacob Bethell.
Across his career at the Rose and Crown, Weatherley has won the 2018 Royal London Cup and the 2022 Vitality Blast.
