Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is set to miss his second consecutive game this Sunday, with his availability for Week 3 also appearing doubtful.
While the team had intended for Porter to gradually increase his workload this week, a flare-up of his back injury forced an early departure from Thursday’s practice. Consequently, he has been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup against the Patriots. Additionally, Porter continues to focus on conditioning following a training camp spent entirely on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers are aiming for a Week 3 return against the Bengals; however, Porter is reportedly considering seeking a second medical opinion regarding his back condition. This injury struggle comes amid Porter’s pursuit of a new contract, a discussion the Steelers are unlikely to engage in due to their established policy against mid-season negotiations.
This contract impasse has fueled speculation regarding a potential trade. While no immediate move seems likely heading into Week 2, the situation could evolve if Porter remains sidelined as the trade deadline approaches.
