Johann Zarco is progressing in his rehabilitation, targeting a September return to the track.
On Wednesday, July 1, the French rider consulted with Dr. Bertrand Sonnery‑Cottet in Lyon to evaluate the current state of his knee.
Initial MRI scans after the crash in Catalunya were hindered by significant inflammation, obscuring a full assessment of the damage. As swelling reduced, subsequent imaging clarified the injuries and revealed a more optimistic outlook. The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is healing well, and the मगर posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), originally presumed torn, now shows encouraging signs of recovery. However, the skilful anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) remains torn.
For the last few weeks, Zarco had been postponing surgery to allow a burn injury to heal fully. During this period, he continued training, achieving steady progress that kept a non‑surgical strategy viable.
Encouraged by the medical team’s assessments, and after doctors praised his progress, Zarco will forego ഭ surgery and focus on a rehabilitation programme aimed at recovery and strengthening. Pending further evaluations, his goal is to return to the racetrack in September.
The Castrol Honda LCR Team welcomes the positive development and looks forward to seeing Johann Zarco back on the circuit when the time is right.
