John Cena has provided an update on the WWE tournament bearing his name, indicating that the project is significantly more advanced than many fans might have anticipated. Though WWE has kept the specifics tightly under wraps, Cena says the only remaining step is to reveal it.
The John Cena Classic was first announced at WWE Backlash in May. Since then, WWE has not disclosed a definitive date or format for the event. Sources have indicated a potential late‑2026 launch, but nothing has been officially confirmed.
In an interview with Metro, Cena emphasized that the tournament is essentially ready to launch. The former WWE Champion added that the company has asked him to remain tight‑lipped until the official announcement.
“I’m fully committed to the John Cena Classic. All the details have been worked out. The company wants me to keep it under wraps until we make the formal reveal,” Cena said.
Cena likened the scenario to a new car awaiting its debut.
“It’s like unveiling a new car model. The vehicle is ready, and I’m eager to pull the cover off, but we have to wait for the proper moment.”
Cena Confirms WWE Classic Tournament Details Are Finalized
The tournament is slated to unite WWE talent from across the entire roster, blending established main‑event stars with up‑and‑coming NXT competitors. The victor will claim a new championship, with fan voting factored into the outcome, offering a fresh twist on the traditional tournament format.
Although a precise date has yet to be disclosed, speculation points to a December 2026 launch. WWE, however, has not confirmed any official schedule.
Cena’s remarks came as he reflected on life after his in‑ring career. He noted that retirement has enabled him to train without the physical strain he once endured.
“Now the training sessions feel great because I’m not constantly fixing every little thing,” Cena explained. “The car spends less time in the garage and more time on the track.”
For now, Cena is waiting alongside the rest of the WWE Universe. The Classic seems poised to launch, but the official announcement has yet to ring the bell.
