Jon Mckiel is set to return this September with Gold Horatio, the follow-up to his 2024 release Hex. The New Brunswick-based songwriter once again enlisted composer, engineer, and multi-instrumentalist Jay Crocker—known as JOYFULTALK—as a collaborator, though the dynamic shifted notably for this session. After Crocker relocated from Nova Scotia to New Brunswick, the pair worked in person at each other’s home studios, a change audible in the album’s lead single, “Rosemary.”
The track feels larger and more assertive than Mckiel’s previous output, blending a mirage-like, synth-driven indie texture reminiscent of early blog-era discoveries with the artist’s distinctively playful, ripped guitar lines. Gold Horatio arrives September 11 via You’ve Changed Records.
