At the Dior Cruise 2027 show in Los Angeles, guests were presented with a movie script on each seat instead of traditional show notes. This cinematic press release, envisioned by new creative director Jonathan Anderson, served to articulate inspirations and acknowledge collaborators, hinting at the collection’s playful and inventive reimagining of familiar elements.
The event expertly wove together the past, present, and future of Hollywood. Moody Hitchcockian lighting and film noir references evoked a bygone era, while the newly opened David Geffen Galleries at The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and a front row featuring contemporary icons like Miley Cyrus and Maude Apatow underscored the industry’s current landscape and its evolving narrative. Anderson elaborated on this theme within the script, noting, “Christian Dior understood how important the idea of ‘the dream’ was for people after the war, as a form of escapism. He explored this in couture; his surrealist friends were obsessed with dreams and, of course, Hollywood is ‘The Dream Factory.’ It was all part of the same cross-cultural shift.”
Dior strategically chose the brutalist architecture of the new LACMA galleries as its atmospheric backdrop, a noteworthy decision given Los Angeles’s array of potential venues. The setting was further enhanced by vintage American cars, subtly referencing the collection’s bags, which drew inspiration from retro Cadillac leather seats.
Anderson’s script also revealed the 1950 film Stage Fright as a primary influence. Christian Dior had designed costumes for the Alfred Hitchcock thriller, which follows an aspiring actress entangled in a murder investigation. This Old Hollywood sensibility permeated the collection, exemplified by a Dior gray wool flannel coat, described in the show notes as appearing “striped with the geometric shadows of Venetian blinds—an echo of film noir.”
This season saw Anderson reimagine several of Dior’s signature motifs. John Galliano’s newspaper print, for instance, now appeared on a slouchy leather chain-strap bag. The iconic Dior Saddle bag was also refreshed with car paint finishes and motor key charms.
The front row featured a notable assembly of stars, including Sabrina Carpenter, Miley Cyrus, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jisoo, Tracee Ellis Ross, Miranda Kerr, Taylor Russell, Jeff Goldblum, Ziwe, Leslie Mann, Ejae, and Maude Apatow. Sabrina Carpenter, notably, wore the collection’s opening look before its official runway debut.
The collection’s color palette showcased baby pink and powder blue alongside royal purple and canary yellow, harmonized by classic gray flannels and brown plaids.
