[Allen Praises Stafford’s Resilience in Bills’ Overtime Triumph]
Matthew Stafford threw 54 passes at SoFi Stadium on Monday night and finished on the losing side of a 37‑34 overtime game against the Buffalo Bills. He completed 40 of them for 383 yards and three touchdowns, and Puka Nacua caught 17 for 138 yards and a scoring catch, a career high in receptions.
Stafford also led the drive that tied the game with five seconds left in regulation, then moved the Rams into field‑goal range in overtime before Greg Rousseau blocked Harrison Mevis’ 48‑yard attempt. Tyler Bass secured victory for Buffalo on the next possession.

Josh Allen operated with a lighter aerial workload through the air. He threw only 19 passes, completing 12 for 210 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and ran 10 times for 121 yards and a touchdown. Two of those runs came on Buffalo’s final possession and gave the Bills a 27‑point buffer for Bass’ kick.
“I mean, I’ve got an unbelievable amount of respect for Matthew. The way he plays the game, the way he’s always played it, he’s as tough as they come,” Allen said after the game when asked about Stafford. “If he ain’t the greatest thrower of football of all time, I don’t know who is. He spins it. He’s a competitor. Every quarterback should strive to emulate that spirit.”

Allen captured MVP honors in 2024 and Stafford in 2025. The quarterback duo exchanged scores throughout the evening, with the lead swapping six times and the score tightening four separate periods. When confronted with feedback about Stafford’s performance, Allen emerged praising the passer he had recently outearned in the very skill set he relied hardest on. Stafford’s 54 attempts nearly tripled Allen’s 19, and Buffalo’s defense managed to survive the offensive firepower only thanks to a pivotal blocked kick. From the sidelines, Allen’s response underscored how strongly Stafford impacted the Bills beyond the final box score.

Allen described his own night with less flattery. “Guys kept chipping away. I don’t think we threw it very well in the first half, but everyone fought back,” he added.
Buffalo finished the season at 4‑1, while the Rams slipped to 2‑3.
Allen started his overtime record at 0‑7 across nine NFL campaigns, and his inaugural overtime triumph came against the quarterback he now considers the premier pure thrower on the profession.
