Juventus Monitoring Emiliano Martinez as Aston Villa Explore Potential Successor

Juventus have renewed their interest in Emiliano Martinez, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Bianconeri are currently evaluating several high-profile options to strengthen their goalkeeping department ahead of the upcoming season.

The Argentine World Cup champion is among a select group of targets, with Ederson and Guglielmo Vicario also reportedly on the club’s shortlist as they determine the best fit for their goal.

While Juventus maintain their watch, Aston Villa are proactively preparing for a potential departure. Following the collapse of a move involving Zion Suzuki and Paris Saint-Germain, Villa have entered formal negotiations with Parma to secure the Japanese international.

Romano reports that Aston Villa are willing to match PSG’s previous valuation for Suzuki, which is estimated at approximately €35 million plus a long-term contract, as discussions between the two clubs progress.

Although no deals are imminent, the current dynamics—with Juventus tracking Martinez and Villa identifying Suzuki as a successor—suggest a volatile transfer window for goalkeepers in the coming weeks.

Martinez’s Recent Absence from the Squad

The speculation regarding Martinez’s future has intensified as the goalkeeper has not featured in Aston Villa’s recent outings since returning to the team.

Martinez missed the 2026 UEFA Super Cup clash against PSG on August 12, which ended in a 2-1 defeat, and was also absent from the squad for a 2-1 pre-season loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Marco Bizot stepped in as the starter for both fixtures.

Despite the rumors, manager Unai Emery has clarified that these absences are not linked to transfer talks, but are strictly for recovery. After completing his 2026 World Cup duties with Argentina on July 19, Emery has granted the goalkeeper an extended period of rest.
