Karla Spetic’s resort collection once again showcased her signature lingerie-inspired lace, a recurring theme on her runway. Familiar designs, including layerable undergarments and catsuits crafted from the delicate, openwork fabric, reappeared in a serene, tonal palette. These pieces evoked a sense of ethereal continuity from previous collections, or as the show notes aptly described, “These familiar forms are revisited and refined through a quieter lens.”
This collection served as an exercise in restraint, with its subdued color palette highlighting texture and styling. What might have been a simple sheer matching set was elevated through crushed Japanese organza and a cinched waistline, introducing subtle depth and volume to the underlying black bra and underwear. Pinstripe elements, such as bustiers and ruched tops, were strategically interwoven with and layered over the sheer lace, creating a deliberate impression of undone elegance. The meticulous design choices demonstrated that incorporating Spetic’s usual vibrant colors would have undermined the season’s contemplative aesthetic.
A more spontaneous element emerged in the apron-like pieces featuring sewing patterns, such as “Front Skirt Cut 1.” Spetic discovered this print unexpectedly during the design process when holding up cutting papers, realizing their potential as a motif. This meta-print offered a striking contrast to the collection’s overall softness. For Spetic, who prioritizes composition in both material and styling, the print served to illuminate her creative methodology. “Sometimes,” she noted, “it’s nice to see what happens behind the scenes.”
