Kevin Owens won the latest chapter of his war with CM Punk, defeating the former champion in a No Holds Barred match that served as the main event of WWE SmackDown. The Friday night showdown represented the most recent escalation in a rivalry that flared up after SummerSlam, when Owens returned and earned a shot at the then-Undisputed WWE Champion.
The 22-and-a-half-minute brawl traveled throughout the arena and into the crowd, with both competitors utilizing tables and chairs against one another. The finish came when Owens introduced a chain into the match. He went for a strike, but Punk countered into a GTS. Owens rebounded off the ropes and nailed Punk with the chain. Both men fell to the mat, with Owens on top to secure the pinfall as the referee counted.
The rivals are now even at 1–1 after Punk won their first meeting on the August 21 episode of SmackDown.
